All-State Children's Choir
The Kentucky Baptist All-State Children’s Choir is an auditioned choir made up of young musicians from Baptist churches throughout Kentucky. Members are chosen by audition and, once selected, may continue to participate through sixth grade. The choir meets together for one weekend in late April. Members receive music several weeks ahead of the rehearsal weekend, and local church choir directors help the children to prepare the music. When the choir comes together, they spend several hours “polishing" the music and preparing for concerts presented in churches on Sunday.

History
The choir began in 1994 when June Bailey was serving as Preschool/Children’s Music Consultant in the Church Music Department of the Kentucky Baptist Convention. The choir met at Cedarmore Baptist Assembly in Bagdad for rehearsal and then presented concerts in the Louisville area with June Bailey serving as director. Twenty churches were represented in the 60-voice choir. In 1998 the choir was divided into two groups in order to allow more singers to participate. The EAST choir continued to rehearse at Cedarmore with June Bailey as director. The WEST choir rehearsed at Jonathan Creek Baptist Assembly in Hardin with Louie Bailey serving as director.
Following the resignation of June Bailey in 1999, Roxanne Nanney began working as Preschool/Children’s Music Consultant in September of that year. In the transition year of 2000, June and Louie Bailey continued as directors of the EAST and WEST choirs. In 2001 and 2002 Roxanne Nanney served as director for the EAST choir and Janie Benjamin directed the WEST choir. In 1999 and 2002 the EAST and WEST choirs joined together for a combined final concert. In 2003, 2006 and 2009, both choirs joined together for a final concert. In 2010, thirty-nine churches were represented in the 133-voice choir.
In our history, 113 different churches have participated at least one year. Three churches have participated each year since 1994: Highland Baptist Church (Louisville), Rich Pond Baptist Church (Bowling Green) and Versailles Baptist Church (Versailles). Hundreds of children have had the opportunity to lift up their voices in praise to God through the Kentucky Baptist All-State Children’s Choir. May there be many more voices in years to come!
