What is the Kentucky Baptist Youth Choir and Orchestra?
The Kentucky Baptist All-State Youth Choir and Orchestra is an 85-voice choir and orchestra comprised of high school students (those having completed grades 9, 10, 11 or 12 as of June 1) selected by audition. Students must be active in the music ministry of a Kentucky Baptist church. Youth who remain in good standing are not required to re-audition each year.
Each summer, the choir meets for a retreat, followed by a tour throughout the state. In 2012, the dates for the retreat and tour are June 24-July 1.
The cost for the retreat and tour is $425 per student, which includes meals, lodging, travel, concert t-shirt and admission to a theme park.
Auditions for Choir and Orchestra
All auditions will be by DVD this year. Each student will be expected to submit a high quality digital video recording of his/her audition to the KBC Worship and Music Department no later than Friday, March 2, 2012. DVDs should be mailed to:

Detailed information and audition materials can be downloaded when registration is completed. Links will be sent to both the student and the minister of music/proctor so that the necessary materials can be downloaded, printed and prepared. We must have valid, active email addresses for both.
The proctor must be an adult willing to be present and to oversee the audition. The preferable proctor would be the minister of music; however, if a minister of music is not available, any adult with some musical skills would suffice. The sight-reading and other items on the audition will require a helper. We must have a valid, active email address for the minister of music, who will act as proctor or forward the materials to the proctor.

Audition Particulars
The choir auditions consist of a prepared piece, pitch-matching, sight-singing and harmonizing. Orchestra auditions consist of a prepared piece, scales, sight-reading and vocal range/pitch matching. Specifics will be included in your email attachment upon registration.
What is the Retreat About?
This is a wonderful week of praise, worship, serving, learning and laughing. It is a great opportunity for students to grow in the knowledge of the Lord and to grow musically, while making connections with other young Christian musicians from across the state.
