Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief Responding in Alabama

LOUISVILLE – Seven Kentucky Baptist chainsaw teams and two mobile shower units are on their way to Dutton, Ala., to assist with disaster recovery following last week’s devastating tornadoes.
The teams, comprised of between 60-70 volunteers, are coming from Baptist disaster relief units from Stanford, Somerset, Richmond, California, Bowling Green, Cadiz, Williamstown, Benton, and Monticello.
They will operate from Happy Home Baptist Church in nearby Henegar, Ala., under the direction of veteran disaster relief coordinator Larry Koch of Taylorsville.
Kentucky is just one of several state Baptist conventions responding to meet needs following the storms that left more than 300 dead. The disaster teams are being coordinated by the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers are also responding to flooding in West Point, Kentucky. A shower unit and mud-out teams are part of this response, which is operating out of West Point Baptist Church under the direction of Bob Perkins of Louisville.
