Restoring Congregational Vitality
The KBC wants to assist congregations in restoring their congregational vitality as they learn to value their diversity, process their differences biblically, and generate exciting ministries for the future through collaborative thinking.
Why: God cares about the quality and health of our congregational relationships. Every congregation has need and opportunity to enhance congregational vitality and strengthen congregational relationships. Ignoring, denying or avoiding attitudes and tactics do not help restore congregational vitality when relational stresses occur.
What: The Restoring Congregational Vitality Process is designed to assist the congregation in applying biblical teachings that affirm Jesus’ Lordship of the church, strengthen its inter-personal relationships, and renew its vision for future ministry together.
How: The Restoring Congregational Vitality Process is a multi-step journey involving the congregation and a trained facilitation team from the Kentucky Baptist Convention.
The Process Includes:
- Church leadership contacting the KBC and scheduling an introductory meeting with a facilitator to explain the process.
- The facilitator team presenting the process to the congregation for their approval. At least 25% of the Sunday morning worship attendance needs to participate in the process in order for it to have a positive impact on the congregation.
- The congregation elects a Task Force of trusted leaders to provide logistical support for the facilitation team.
- The facilitation team meets with the Task Force for orientation and calendaring of the Listening Weekend and Training Weekend.
- The facilitation team provides on-going support and resourcing to the Task Force for up to one year.
- The facilitation team conducts the listening sessions and then prepares a feedback report that the Task Force mails to all members of the congregation.
- The facilitation team leads the training weekend and then meets with the Task Force to discuss follow up actions and time table.
The Congregation’s Investment in the Process Consists of:
People: Task Force members and church members to participate in the listening sessions and training weekend.
Time: Three Task Force meetings and two church wide weekend events:
- the listening weekend involves 30 minute sessions per small group of church members, two to ten people and
- the training weekend involves all church members in three sessions, Friday evening, Saturday morning, and Saturday afternoon.
Finances: (a) Meals and Friday evening lodging for the facilitation team for the two weekend events. (b) mileage for the facilitation team for the two weekends. (c) copying and postage of feedback report for the Task Force. (d) lunch for members during the training weekend. The KBC provides the facilitation team-no honorarium expense for the church.
